James Tanner: Capitals on Vacation? Rivals Improve While Caps Chill

All year that’s all I’ve read. Capitals can’t sustain it, advanced stats bla bla bla

Out performed their statistics? LOL. Anyone making that statement doesn't understand the game of hockey.

Die hard Caps fans know full well their team was the best last year. They had a parade!

2019:

Hurricanes (with Darling and Mrazek) are Cup contenders.

Capitals are a fringe playoff team.

Don't forget in 11 months where you heard that first, everybody!

Seems like Tanner is still holding a grudge against the Caps for winning the cup and proving him wrong. Time to get over it...

How do they still let this guy blog. Clearly outperformed his intellect. Hows the best dynasty ever created in hockey according to you? (Edmonton). Ill be back when jack johnson wins the cup with pitts. In a top 4 role.

The Hurricanes have the best blue line in the NHL, and any goalie who can make the NHL is capable of having a great season. I don't love their goaltending, but I like their team a heck of a lot more than Washingtons.

That's really dumb. Why can't I just have an opinion? Why should there be a motive ascribed to it that would be embarrassing for a five year old to have?

I like the Capitals, I cheered for them to win. I could not give a crap about being right, but if you look at the available information, it's pretty clear the Capitals did about million times better than they should have, and the comedown will likely be rough.

Because based on your writing, you clearly have an agenda based on advanced stats and your superior understanding of them, above other people's opinions, above NHL analysts, above experienced hockey people. The Capitals went against all of your information and expertise but instead of looking at certain positives or trying to see where you went wrong, you look for any chance to knock them down a few, and focus on any negative spin that there could possibly be.

It's more than "just having an opinion" it's confirmation bias at it's ugliest, and yes, it's something to be embarrassed about. In almost every blog you still continue to talk about how the Caps shouldn't have won the cup based on your interpretation of the stats so you clearly care about being right. Like I said, it's time to get over it.

No doubt. That's one of the biggest issue with analytics. You can use them to support whatever bias you have. Analytics "experts" like Mr. Tanner believe that they remove biases but they don't.

Exactly what was stated above. You think you are superior(clearly in many ways to many others whom you dont even know). Youre condecsending and arrogant and combine that with stupid "opinions" based on linear stats, gives you these blogs which are really hard to stomach for real hockey fans. Way way way too many matter of fact statements which just arent true.
